THE VOLUNTEERS ROLE
Volunteering for the Lancashire Wellbeing Service provides an opportunity for personal fulfilment and to gain invaluable experience for people looking to further their career.
Purpose of the role
We are recruiting Volunteers to enhance the support we provide to people throughout the County. Lancashire Wellbeing Service Volunteers will support people who are living with a long term health condition e.g. heart disease, diabetes, anxiety, struggling to cope or socially isolated, to work towards set goals.
Volunteer support is required Monday to Friday for a minimum of three sessions per week, a typical session could equate to anywhere between thirty minutes to an hour and a half or occasionally above but this will be carefully managed in accordance with the volunteers availability.
Volunteers will support in community settings, and occasionally, in peoples’ homes but will be fully supported by the designated Wellbeing Worker (mentor) to ensure safety and appropriateness.
Volunteers for this role are required to be 18 years of age and over, will ideally have some life experience enabling empathy with a diverse range of service users. Maintaining professional boundaries, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to be supportive in a mentoring and non-judgemental way. A high level of honesty and integrity is needed as support may be required for service users within their own homes.
Duties & activities
The Wellbeing Worker will assign, with volunteer agreement, practical tasks to help the service user to improve their health and wellbeing e.g. accompanying people to appointments, groups and activities or helping to access local support services.
Induction and local training to be discussed at initial informal interview.
Two references will be required. The volunteer role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) for which there will be no cost to the volunteer for checks undertaken.
