Taking steps to a healthier lifestyle

In the Brookfield area of Preston, we began to notice that some of our service users were socially isolated. This was down to a number of reasons but primarily because they were caring for someone else, usually a child or elderly relative. The Lancashire Wellbeing Service decided to set up a group to encourage our service-users to socialise.

The group needed to be based around an activity that was easy to take part in. After chatting with a few service users, decided a walking and healthy eating group would be the most beneficial and appealing. Alongside SoundSkills, a brilliant community hub in the area, we started to put on short walks.

After a few weeks, the ‘stroll’ walking group had grown to over 10 members and remains popular. We meet every Wednesday at 11.30am at SoundSkills on Langcliffe road. In the Winter months, we tend not to do too much walking, so we’ve taken to preparing a calendar using all our favourite photographs of the year. It’s free and we welcome any one to come along.
