JULIE's Journey

The following genuine success story follows Julie, although we have changed her name, who tells us how the Lancashire Wellbeing Service has changed her life and opened up the possibility of a new career.

"From the start I found my wellbeing worker Hester was so approachable and gave me a lot of confidence mentally which I had lost due to stress. She pointed me in the right direction and my self-esteem was improved a lot. Soon after the first 3 sessions with Hester I had a job interview and was so positive that I was successful. I feel that my motivation came from Hester to bring out the hidden person who I thought of as a failure. Being a single parent as well has its' own barriers but with more confidence I now live a healthier and happier life and deal with things one at a time."

And the story hasn't ended yet ..... Julie is now a volunteer with the Lancashire Wellbeing service and in her own words "absolutely loving it". She explains why she wanted to get more involved, "I wanted to offer my services and experiences to people like me. I am not the only one in a difficult situation, the only one suffering, in fact there are people who are worse off than me. Due to the problems we face we lack interest in other things such as social interaction and healthy eating. This has a negative impact on our lives, it did to me. By being part of the service I get job satisfaction by helping people like me because they feel they have nobody to talk to. This service is much needed in this day and age."

Julie has continued to grow in confidence and learn new skills. "I have enrolled on a CBT Therapy Course and studied Child Psychology which I enjoyed and it helped me with my own children. I have set the right foundations for my children academically and they are doing really well, all our lives are much happier. The Lancashire Wellbeing Service is just what us Prestonian's needs ... and should stay forever!"

Her next step, she'd like to join the service as a Wellbeing Worker herself ... watch this space!
